Assimilation What is assimilation? Assimilation is the process of changing your identity to “fit it”. You are making yourself seem “acceptable and normal” to the dominant culture. People do this for many reasons To not get picked on, to feel normal, and many more situations. Assimilation affects students as well. Not every school is diverse so some kids don't feel like they can be themselves when no one around is like them. Assimilation can be harmful to some. The process of changing yourself so you can feel like other people can cause you to have an identity crisis just so you can have validation from the dominant group.
